Headmaster Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Relationship with Underage Student

The headmaster of Prevailing Academy, a basic school in the Shama District of the Western Region, has been arrested in connection with allegations that he impregnated a final-year Junior High School (JHS) student.

The suspect, named in reports as Mr. Isaac Dunkwa, was taken into custody after the matter was brought to the attention of local authorities. Family members and community leaders reported the case to police, who say an investigation is ongoing.

According to initial reports, the headmaster allegedly tried to persuade another student to claim responsibility for the pregnancy. Police have not yet released a full statement on the matter; inquiries are ongoing to establish the sequence of events and whether any criminal offences were committed.

Officials from child-protection organisations and education stakeholders expressed concern at the allegations and urged that the matter be thoroughly investigated and handled in a manner that protects the rights and privacy of the minor involved.

The victim is reportedly receiving medical and psychological support while investigations continue. Authorities have appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Attempts to reach representatives of Prevailing Academy and the Shama District police for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication / did not elicit an immediate response. The headmaster is assisting police with inquiries.
