GES Directs Reversal of Unauthorized Teacher Transfers
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive instructing all Regional, Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education to reverse unapproved transfers of teachers that have occurred without appropriate authorization. This decision follows reports that several teachers had been transferred across various districts without the necessary approval or consultation with the relevant Regional Directors of Education.
According to a letter dated 11th September 2024, signed by Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, Deputy Director-General (Q&A) on behalf of the Director-General, these unapproved transfers are not only disrupting the educational process but also undermining established protocols meant to ensure that teacher transfers are conducted in the best interest of both students and teachers.
The GES emphasized that immediate action must be taken to reverse any such unauthorized transfers. The letter further directs that no further transfers should occur within the districts until further notice from the GES management. This proactive move is intended to restore order within the teaching staff placement system, ensuring that educational standards and policies are maintained.

The GES management expects full compliance with the directive and has called on all education directors to ensure that established protocols are strictly followed moving forward.
This directive underscores GES’s commitment to maintaining order and fairness in teacher deployment across the country, ensuring that the educational needs of students are met without unnecessary disruptions. Teachers and educational stakeholders are encouraged to cooperate with the directive for the smooth functioning of the education system.
Conclusion
The GES’s swift response to unapproved transfers demonstrates its dedication to safeguarding the integrity of the Ghanaian education system, ensuring that both teacher and student interests are prioritized.
