GES Confirms 603,328 Candidates for 2025 BECE, Warns Against Exam Malpractice

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced that a total of 603,328 candidates are set to write the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 11, and end on Wednesday, June 18 across all examination centres nationwide.

Speaking at a press conference, the Director-General of the GES, Professor Ernest Davies, assured the public that adequate preparations have been completed to ensure a smooth and incident-free examination period.

In his address, Prof. Davies issued a stern warning to invigilators and supervisors, stating that any individual found to be involved in examination malpractice or misconduct will face immediate dismissal.

“We are not going to tolerate any compromise on the integrity of the examination. Any supervisor, invigilator, or official who attempts to aid in any form of malpractice will be sanctioned without delay,” he emphasized.

The GES Director-General also made a strong appeal to teachers, parents, and community leaders to actively support national efforts to protect the credibility of the BECE and Ghana’s entire educational system.

“We must all come together to stamp out examination malpractice. It is not just the responsibility of GES or WAEC; it is a collective responsibility to safeguard the future of our children,” he stated.

Touching on the issue of school selection, Prof. Davies provided some relief to candidates and their families by disclosing that despite the expiration of the official deadline, all candidates will still be allowed to choose their preferred Senior High Schools. This, he said, is part of the GES’s commitment to ensuring equal access and fairness for all students.

The BECE remains a critical milestone in Ghana’s educational journey, determining placement into various Senior High Schools and technical institutions. With over 600,000 candidates set to participate, the spotlight now turns to examination centres nationwide as the country prepares for one of its most significant annual academic events.
