Buipe Celebrates 68th Independence Day with Grand Ceremony at Jinapor II Stadium

Buipe, the district capital of the Central Gonja District, was abuzz with pride and unity as it marked the 68th Independence Day celebration on March 6, 2025, at Jinapor II Stadium. The celebration, themed “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” was a significant occasion for residents of the district as they gathered to honor Ghana’s national heritage and reflect on the progress made over the years.

The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including the District Director of Education (DDE), Mrs. Veronica Tampour-Kuupol, Chairman Gariba, Heads of Departments, institutions, and companies, as well as representatives from various security agencies and voluntary organizations. Students from different schools across the district participated in the celebrations, showcasing the youthful energy and vibrant spirit of Buipe.

A highlight of the event was the inspection of the parade, which set the tone for the day’s activities. The highly anticipated Independence Day speech was delivered by Mr. Petro P. Ankorle, the Central Gonja District Coordinating Director.
In his speech, Mr. Ankorle took the opportunity to express gratitude to various stakeholders who have significantly contributed to the district’s progress. He acknowledged the support from entities such as Jira Buipewura, HRM Jira Mankpanwura, Savanna Diamond Cement, and BOST, among others.

Mrs. Veronica Tampour-Kuupol, in her welcome address, provided a comprehensive overview of the district’s educational achievements. Despite facing numerous challenges, the district has shown notable improvements in recent years. In the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the district’s performance improved slightly from 69% in 2022 to 70% in 2023.

Similarly, in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Buipe SHS made remarkable strides, moving from a 61% pass rate in 2022 to 94% in 2023 in four core subjects. Mpaha SHS also saw an impressive increase from 40% in 2022 to 63% in 2023.
In her address, Mrs. Veronica Tampour-Kuupol highlighted the district’s ongoing commitment to improving educational outcomes. She emphasized several initiatives, including intensifying monitoring and supervision of instructional activities, collaborating with stakeholders like the District Assembly, local MPs, and various organizations to improve infrastructure, and enhancing performance in sports and other co-curricular activities.

One of the key points raised was the introduction of an award scheme by the Independence Planning Committee last year, which recognized the best BECE candidates. However, due to economic challenges, the awards could not be given this year. Despite this, the hope remains to resume the awards program next year, with support from various stakeholders.

In conclusion, Mrs. Veronica Tampour-Kuupol urged all residents of the district to reflect on the progress made, renew their commitment to education, and work together towards building a brighter future for the district and the nation as a whole. She emphasized the importance of education as the foundation for development, democracy, and peace.
With renewed optimism and a shared vision for the future, the people of Buipe and the Central Gonja District are determined to continue striving towards greater success, united in their quest for progress.
