Another Teacher-Student Scandal Hits Ghana’s Education Sector

Barely days after the controversy surrounding the KNUST SHS Assistant Headmaster, another disturbing incident involving a teacher has surfaced online, once again placing the teaching profession under public scrutiny.

A viral video circulating on social media captures a man, identified as a teacher at Okadjakrom Senior High Technical Gallery (OKASHTECH) in the Oti Region, engaging in an 1nt1mate act with a female student. The incident reportedly took place in what appears to be the teacher’s office.

The footage, which has sparked widespread outrage, has reignited conversations about teacher misconduct, abuse of power, and the safety of students within Ghana’s educational institutions. Many Ghanaians have expressed deep disappointment, stressing that such actions tarnish the reputation of the teaching profession and undermine the trust placed in educators.

Education stakeholders and advocacy groups are calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and law enforcement authorities to swiftly investigate the matter and take decisive action. They argue that firm measures are necessary not only to serve as a deterrent but also to protect vulnerable students from exploitation.

This latest scandal comes at a time when calls for stronger teacher supervision, improved guidance and counseling systems, and stricter enforcement of professional ethics in schools are growing louder.

The Ghana Education Service is yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, the public is demanding that urgent steps be taken to ensure that teachers uphold their responsibility as role models, prioritizing the welfare and dignity of the learners entrusted to their care.
