67th Independence Day Parade in the Central Gonja District

Buipe, the district capital of the Central Gonja district, marked the 67th Independence Day with a grand celebration on the school field of Buipe D/A Junior High School.

The event, was attended by a representative of the District Director of Education (DDE), District Chief Executive (DCE), Chairman Gariba, Heads of Departments, Institutions and Companies, Security Agencies, voluntary organizations, and students from various schools in the district.

Themed “Our Democracy Our Pride,” as the parade inspection progresses, anticipation was mounted for the delivery of Independence Day speech by the Mr. Salisu Sulemana, the representative of the DDE, who acknowledged and appreciated the immense contributions and support the district has received from various stakeholders, to wit, Jira Buipewura, HRM Jira Mankpanwura, Savanna Diamond Cement, BOST, etc.

Particular recognition and appreciation were made of the Buipewura who beside the numerous infrastructural development he has undertaken for some schools, has also awarded three best teachers in the Buipe traditional area during the 15th anniversary of his enskinment.

The DDE rep also spoke about the BECE and WASSCE performances in the district in the previous years. He noted that both BECE and WASSCE have improved over the last three years. With BECE, it progressed tremendously from 45% pass in 2019 to 82% in 2021. Although, their performance dropped in 2022 from 82% to 69%, he hopes that there would be improvement in the coming years. With WASSCE, Buipe SHS improved from 4.6% in 2020 to 40.7% in 2021 while Mpaha SHS had 45% in their first exams in 2022.

Despite the progress made, he mentioned measures taken to improve upon the learning outcomes. The measures were;

  • Stepping up monitoring and supervision in their schools.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, notably, Chiefs, companies, parents, individuals, etc. to provide accommodation for both basic and second cycle schools and
  • Advocating for award schemes to motivate staff as well as students for the best performance.

He concluded by urging all present to renew their pledge and dedication to the course of education, the course of our democracy and the course of peace and development.
