The overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has issued a call to government appointees from his jurisdiction to remain loyal to President John Dramani Mahama and uphold the trust placed in them.

In a recent statement, the traditional leader emphasized the critical role these appointees play in ensuring the effective implementation of the President’s mandate, urging them to demonstrate their commitment through meaningful contributions to the nation’s development.

Speaking at his palace in Damongo, Savannah Region, Yagbonwura made it clear that President Mahama’s trust in these appointees is not without reason. “I know you are all qualified and loyal. That’s why the President builds his trust and selects you among the lot. So, don’t betray him, but let your input justify that trust,” he remarked.

Yagbonwura’s remarks were delivered during a courtesy call by the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Yusif Sulemana, who had come to formally inform the overlord of his new appointment. The traditional leader used this occasion to stress the importance of supporting the President in his mission to fulfill his promises to the people of Ghana, particularly in the Savannah Region.

On behalf of his fellow appointees, Yusif Sulemana expressed heartfelt gratitude to Yagbonwura for his instrumental role in ensuring President Mahama’s victory and reaffirmed their dedication to serving the nation. “We want to tell him [Yagbonwura] that those of us who have been appointed by the President will not disappoint the good people of the Savannah Region,” Sulemana pledged.

In total, six individuals from the Savannah Region have been appointed to key government positions, reflecting the growing influence and representation of the region in national affairs. The appointees include:

  • John Abdulai Jinapor – Minister of Energy and Green Transition
  • Yusif Sulemana – Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources
  • Salisu Be-Awuribe – Savannah Regional Minister
  • Adam Mutawakilu – Managing Director, Ghana Water Company Limited
  • Saaka Iddrisu – Savannah Regional Manager, MASLOC
  • Inusah Mahama – National Deputy Coordinator, YEA
  • Kassim Yahuza – Presidential Staffer
