Two Teachers Clash Over Extra Classes Fees at Pepease D/A Basic School

In a shocking incident that has left many residents and education stakeholders concerned, two professional teachers at the Pepease D/A Basic School in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region engaged in a violent physical confrontation in front of their students.
According to eyewitnesses, the unfortunate incident occurred during school hours and stemmed from a disagreement over extra classes fees. The two teachers, whose names are yet to be officially disclosed, reportedly exchanged harsh words before the altercation escalated into a full-blown fight, disrupting academic activities and leaving students visibly shaken.
Parents and community members who spoke to local reporters expressed deep disappointment over the conduct of the teachers, describing the scene as both disgraceful and damaging to the image of the teaching profession.
“This is highly unprofessional. Teachers are supposed to be role models for the children, not engage in fights in front of them,” one parent lamented.
School authorities have since reported the matter to the Sekyere Kumawu District Directorate of Education. Preliminary investigations have begun to determine the full circumstances surrounding the altercation and appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken.
A spokesperson at the district education office confirmed that the Directorate is treating the issue with utmost seriousness and assured the public that necessary actions will be taken in line with Ghana Education Service (GES) regulations.
This incident has reignited calls for clearer guidelines and oversight regarding extra classes and fees charged by teachers in public basic schools. While many teachers provide supplementary lessons to help students improve academically, concerns continue to grow about unregulated fees, competition among staff, and its potential impact on the school environment.
As the investigation unfolds, education advocates are urging the GES to intensify teacher professional development in conflict resolution and ethics, to safeguard the integrity of the classroom and the welfare of learners.
