Two female teachers die in fatal crash on Adukrom-Somanya road

In the Eastern Region, two female teachers from Yilo Krobo Senior High School perished in a tragic accident on the Adukrom to Somanya road.

Around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, the incident happened near Akuni No. 2, while the victims were making their way back from a colleague’s enstoolment ceremony in the Kwahu district.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident: a Toyota Corolla with registration number GR 901-21 carrying the victims, a vehicle driven by Bernard Owusu Agyeman with a Chinese national on board, and a vehicle with registration number GV 1263-20 belonging to the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly. The deceased patients’ bodies have been brought to the hospital mortuary. Witnesses state that the driver of the Abuakwa North Assembly car tried an unsafe overtaking move, which caused the Toyota Corolla to collide with the vehicle. Additionally, the third car struck the scene. The tragedy happened a few hours after President Akufo-Addo’s convoy was involved in a deadly mishap on the Accra-Kumasi Highway while returning from Kumasi along the Bunso to Akyem Asafo section.

One of the convoy’s drivers, Mr. Kwesi Atta, perished. A number of the President’s security detail members, including police officers and close protection personnel, suffered various degrees of injuries. Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, the Public Affairs Director of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, has expressed concern over the rising number of road accidents in the nation. He reported that Ghana recorded a total of 4,503 road crashes in the first quarter of this year, resulting in 829 deaths and 4,955 injuries.
