Techiman SHS Assault: Deputy Education Minister Directs GES to Investigate Teachers
Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has referred the violent incident at Techiman Senior High School (SHS) involving two teachers and a final-year student to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for urgent investigation.
The move follows the circulation of disturbing video footage allegedly showing two male teachers physically assaulting the student, including stepping on his head during the incident.
In response to the public outcry surrounding the footage, Dr. Apaak confirmed that the matter had been referred to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for investigation and the necessary action.
In a Facebook post, the Deputy Minister disclosed that the referral was made at the instance of the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
“At the instance of the Honourable Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, I have referred the attached disturbing video said to be a violent incident at Techiman SHS involving some teachers and a student to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for urgent investigation,” Dr. Apaak stated.
He further indicated that the Director-General had been directed to apply the necessary sanctions against any individuals found responsible for the misconduct.
The directive signals the Education Ministry’s intention to ensure that the incident is thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action is taken based on the findings.
The Deputy Minister stressed that misconduct would not be tolerated in Ghanaian schools, regardless of the individuals involved.
According to him, the government’s responsibility is to ensure that schools remain safe environments for everyone, including students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff.

“Misconduct will not be tolerated in our schools from any stakeholder, be it teaching and non-teaching staff, students or parents.
“We have a mandate to ensure that our schools remain safe for all students, teaching and non-teaching staff at all times,” he added.
The referral places responsibility on the Ghana Education Service to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate administrative action.
The incident has generated widespread concern about student protection, teacher conduct and the use of physical violence in maintaining discipline in schools.
The investigation is expected to establish the facts surrounding the confrontation and determine whether disciplinary sanctions should be imposed on those found responsible.
The development comes after the Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest of two Techiman SHS teachers, identified as Jerry Jones Owusu Bekoe and Ameyaw Adusa, on November 1, 2026, in connection with the alleged assault on a 17-year-old Form Three student.
The police have indicated that the incident occurred on October 23, 2026, after the teachers allegedly confronted the student over claims that he had attacked two Form One students.
Further updates are expected as the Ghana Education Service proceeds with its investigation.
