Teachers Fund Suspends Processing of Some Loan Applications Over Affordability Drop

The Teachers Fund has announced a temporary suspension in the processing of some loan applications following a sharp drop in the loan affordability of affected members.

In a notice dated 31st December 2025, Management of the Fund explained that recent affordability assessments conducted through the Third Party Referencing System (TPRS) revealed that some members’ borrowing capacity had reduced significantly.

According to the Fund, the drop in affordability was largely caused by deductions made towards teachers’ Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and the National Teaching Council (NTC) Teacher License fee, which were factored into the December 2025 payroll.

“In some cases, the deductions resulted in zero affordability,” the notice stated.

As a result, several loan applicants were unable to qualify for the amounts they applied for, making it impossible for the Fund to proceed with their applications under the existing conditions.

Management disclosed that engagements with the TPRS team confirmed that the affordability challenges would be fully corrected after the January 2026 payroll run.

Consequently, the processing of loan applications for affected members has been placed on hold until the next payroll window in January 2026, a situation expected to affect the loan processing timelines for those applicants.

The Fund has therefore appealed to District Secretaries to ensure that the information is widely disseminated to all affected loan applicants to manage expectations and reduce anxiety.

The notice was signed by the Chief Operations Officer, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Fund.

Members are advised to remain patient as the issue is expected to be resolved once the January payroll adjustments are effected.
