Teacher Expresses Disappointment Over Poor Quality of GNAT Cloth

A Ghanaian teacher has expressed deep disappointment after discovering that the cloth provided by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) was made of poor-quality material that tore easily under minimal pressure.

According to the teacher, the fabric’s weak texture was far below expectations, especially considering GNAT’s long-standing position as the main teachers’ union in the country. He lamented that such an experience reflects a broader issue of neglect and disregard for the welfare and dignity of teachers.

“The cloth is supposed to represent pride and unity among teachers, yet what we’ve been given does not even last. It tears at the slightest pull,” he complained.

He further criticized GNAT for what he described as a consistent pattern of undervaluing teachers, both in terms of welfare support and symbolic gestures. The teacher urged the association to take steps to improve the quality of items distributed to members, stressing that teachers deserve products that reflect their importance to national development.

Many teachers across the country have in recent times voiced frustration over issues such as low motivation, poor conditions of service, and a perceived lack of accountability from their unions. The complaint over the GNAT cloth adds to the growing calls for the association to re-evaluate how it engages and supports its members.

As the debate continues, some educators have called on GNAT to ensure transparency in procurement and quality assurance processes to restore trust and dignity within the teaching profession.
