Takoradi Technical Institute Student Jailed Six Months for Stabbing Teacher

A Takoradi District Court has sentenced a second-year student of Takoradi Technical Institute (TTI), Emmanuel Sam, popularly known as Agogo, to six months in prison for stabbing a teacher on campus.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered Sam to pay GH₵3,000 as compensation to the injured tutor. Failure to pay will attract an extra three months in jail. He was also fined GH₵2,400 by the court.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Reports on Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show indicated that Sam entered the school through an unapproved route. A teacher monitoring the area stopped him and attempted to escort him to the senior housemaster for disciplinary action.

In a desperate bid to avoid punishment, Sam allegedly pulled a pair of scissors from his pocket and stabbed the teacher in the arm. He was quickly subdued by other staff members, arrested, and handed over to the Central Police Station.

Further investigations revealed that Sam had a history of absenteeism and indiscipline on campus. He was subsequently charged and arraigned before the Takoradi District Court, where judgment was delivered on Friday.

The ruling has sparked conversations about student discipline and safety on school campuses, with many education stakeholders urging stricter measures to prevent such violent incidents.
