Shocking Theft at St. Andrew Anglican Basic School Leaves Students Without Roof or Desks

In a brazen act of theft that has stunned the local community, unknown thieves have stripped the entire roof and stolen all metal desks from the ‘B’ block of the St. Andrew Anglican Basic School in Akyem Oda, Birim Central Municipality.

The incident, which occurred while the school was on break, was brought to light by Papa Yaw Amoah, the Assembly Member for the Asene Electoral Area. Speaking to the media, Mr. Amoah expressed shock at the scale of the theft, describing it as a significant setback for both the school and the broader community.

According to Mr. Amoah, not only was the entire roofing of the ‘B’ block removed, but all the metal furniture inside the classrooms was also taken. “The building is now exposed to the elements, and the ceiling has already suffered water damage,” he said. “If nothing is done urgently, the structure will deteriorate further.”

This development comes on the heels of a recent government intervention to repair the ‘A’ block of the same school, which had previously been damaged by a storm. Pupils who had been relocated to the now-looted ‘B’ block had only just returned to the refurbished ‘A’ block before the theft was discovered.

Efforts were underway to repaint and refurbish the ‘B’ block to prepare it for future use, but the theft has now derailed those plans. Mr. Amoah stressed the urgency of the situation and is calling on the government, NGOs, philanthropists, and other relevant institutions to step in and assist.

“This is not just a loss of infrastructure—it’s a disruption to the education and future of our children,” he emphasized.

The community is appealing for immediate support to re-roof the building and replace the stolen furniture to restore a safe and functional learning environment for the pupils.

As investigations into the incident continue, local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, the community hopes that swift intervention will prevent further damage and ensure that students do not suffer long-term consequences from this devastating act.
