Sad News: Teacher Knocked Down by Speeding Bus at Anhwiaso

A 37-year-old teacher is battling for his life after a devastating road accident involving a speeding Sprinter bus at Anhwiaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

The victim, identified as Abdullah Osman, sustained severe injuries when his motorcycle was struck by the bus at the Anhwiaso Clinic Junction. He is currently in critical condition receiving treatment.

According to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Bibiani, the accident occurred when the driver of the Sprinter bus, 29-year-old Obed Opoku, was travelling from Sefwi Bekwai towards Kumasi.

Preliminary police reports indicate that the driver, who was allegedly speeding, failed to exercise due care and attention upon reaching the junction, resulting in a collision with an unregistered Haojin motorcycle being ridden by the victim.

Abdullah Osman, a teacher at Queens Senior High School in Anhwiaso, was reportedly attempting to join the main road from the Anhwiaso Clinic direction toward the township at the time of the incident.

Following the crash, he was rushed to the Anhwiaso Community Hospital for emergency treatment. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for advanced medical care.

An eyewitness, Joseph Nsiah, speaking to 3news, recounted the incident, describing the impact as severe and sudden.

Both the Sprinter bus and the damaged motorcycle have since been towed from the scene to allow for the free flow of traffic. Meanwhile, police have launched investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident.

The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety, particularly the dangers posed by excessive speeding and lack of caution at busy junctions across the country. Authorities continue to urge motorists to strictly adhere to road traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
