Relative Appeals Two-Week Remand of SWESBUS Student Over Obrachire SHS Assault Case
A relative of one of the students of Swedru Senior High School (SWESBUS) who has been remanded over the alleged brutal assault of a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School has made a passionate appeal to the authorities to reconsider the court’s decision.
The suspect, together with other students, was remanded for two weeks following their alleged involvement in the violent incident that has since sparked public concern. The case has drawn widespread attention, with many calling for strict disciplinary and legal action, while others are urging authorities to balance justice with the future prospects of the young suspects.
Speaking after the court proceedings, the relative expressed deep worry about the impact of the remand on the student’s academic progress. He pleaded with the court to consider a lesser sanction, arguing that the suspect is still a student whose education and long-term future could be severely disrupted by prolonged detention.
According to him, while wrongdoing must not be excused, corrective measures should not permanently derail the academic journey of the young individual involved. He emphasized the importance of guidance, counseling, and rehabilitation rather than punitive measures that may have lasting consequences on the student’s life.

The assault incident, described as brutal, has reignited conversations about student indiscipline and rising violence in some senior high schools across the country. Education stakeholders have consistently called for stronger supervision, mentorship, and character development programmes to address such behaviors.
Meanwhile, authorities are expected to continue investigations as the suspects remain in custody. The court’s decision on any possible variation of the remand conditions will likely shape public discourse on how juvenile-related offenses within educational institutions should be handled.
The case underscores the delicate balance between enforcing accountability and safeguarding the educational futures of young offenders.
