Parent Accuses SDA M/A JHS Headteacher of Mismanaging PTA Funds
A parent of SDA M/A Junior High School in Wa has accused the school’s headteacher, Mr. Sotenge Zunkara, and some staff members of failing to account for monies contributed by parents for key school projects and services. The allegations, which were shared with the Upper West Media Team under anonymity, have stirred growing concerns among stakeholders and led to the suspension of PTA activities.
According to the parent, contributions were made in 2024 to support various initiatives proposed by the headteacher. These included the procurement of textbooks for Creative Arts and Design and Career Technology, the payment of a night security officer, and the relocation of the school’s primary block to Kpaguri in collaboration with community stakeholders.
Despite these commitments, the parent claimed that none of the promised textbooks were purchased, and the hired security personnel reportedly went unpaid. This failure, the parent noted, sparked tensions among staff and parents, who questioned the whereabouts of the funds.

When contacted for a response, Headteacher Mr. Zunkara admitted that accountability challenges existed. He reportedly explained that part of the money had been borrowed by unidentified individuals, while another portion could not be traced due to actions of one of the school’s spending officers.
The parent is now calling for a full-scale investigation to prevent similar issues in the future. As a result of the controversy, PTA operations were suspended on November 13, 2025.
This is not the first time the headteacher has faced controversy. In July, he allegedly threatened to transfer a teacher, Mr. Ahmed Fori Suraj, after the teacher reportedly intended to disclose information about the financial mismanagement to the media.
Concerned parents and community members are urging the Ghana Education Service and relevant authorities to intervene, restore accountability, and ensure that funds contributed by parents are used strictly for their intended purposes.
