One Reported Dead, Two Others Injured in Inter-Schools Sports Clash at New Subri

A tragic incident has marred what was meant to be a day of sporting excitement at New Subri in the Wassa East District of the Western Region, as one person has been confirmed dead and two others are in critical condition following a violent clash during an inter-basic schools sports competition.

The event, organized by the Ghana Education Service (GES) under the Wassa East Education Directorate, brought together ten public basic schools within the Subri Circuit. The competition, which aimed to foster unity, discipline, and sportsmanship among pupils, unfortunately ended in chaos after a misunderstanding erupted between supporters of two competing schools.

According to eyewitness accounts, tension began to rise during a football match between Subri Methodist JHS and Nsadweso D/A JHS. What initially started as a verbal altercation between supporters of Nsadweso and New Subri soon spiraled out of control, leading to a violent confrontation involving several members of both communities.

In the ensuing melee, three individuals sustained cutlass wounds. One of them was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while the other two victims are reportedly receiving treatment at a health facility in Tarkwa.

Following the tragic turn of events, organizers immediately called off the remaining activities of the sports competition. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue for preservation and further investigation.
