Ministry of Education annul the review of the Free SHS programme

Following the brouhaha concerning the Free Education Policy, The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released an official statement with reference number-DC326/355/01, dated July 25, 2022 about the discussions concerning a purported ongoing review of the Free Senior High School Policy by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Management is through the letter stating categorically that, the Free SHS Policy is never under review. The Government of Ghana under the adroit leadership of His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo chalked a major milestone with the implementation of the Free SHS Programme in 2017. The policy has, since its inception, increased enrollment of students from a little over 800,000 to approximately 1.3 million individuals this year.

The Ministry of Education stated that, there have also been significant improvement in the WASSCE results over the period with more than 50% of candidates attaining A1-C6, that is university approved passes, consistently in the four core subject areas namely; Mathematics, English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies.

Moreover, due to the introduction of the FSHS Policy, the Nation has achieved a gender parity index of 0.99 in 2021 as compared to 0.92 in 2017. Progress made thus far points to the fact that the Free SHS Policy is on good course. The Ministry therefore wishes to assure Ghanaians that the Policy is not under review, and it remains continuous to its implementation.
