KNUST Student Dies After Fall from Off-Campus Hostel in Ayeduase

A second-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has tragically died after reportedly falling from the second floor of his off-campus hostel.

The deceased has been identified as Mr. Ransford Amankwah Asomani, a Level 200 student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management. His death was confirmed in an official statement issued by the management of KNUST.

According to the university, preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026, at an off-campus hostel located in Ayeduase, a suburb widely known for student accommodation.

Management disclosed that Mr. Asomani was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues with assistance from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The university has since informed the deceased student’s parents, while his body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

In its statement, KNUST Management expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire university community.

The statement further noted that the KNUST Police, working together with the university’s security services, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Management assured the public that further updates will be provided once investigations are concluded, reiterating the university’s commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of all students and staff.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the KNUST community, with many students and stakeholders calling for enhanced safety measures in off-campus hostels.
