GSTS Parents Association Gives WAEC Seven-Day Ultimatum to Release Withheld Results

The Parents Association of Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) has given the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) a seven-day ultimatum to release the withheld Integrated Science results of over 1,100 candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Association is adamant that waiting until February 28, as suggested by WAEC, is not acceptable. The frustration among parents has reached a boiling point, with many expressing deep concern over the impact this delay is having on their children’s emotional and psychological well-being.
In a press conference held on Monday, February 10, Thomas Cudjoe, Chairman of the Parents Association, condemned the withholding of the results and highlighted the significant stress this has placed on students and families. He stressed that the decision has caused immense trauma for both students who are uncertain about their academic future, as well as the parents who are left in the dark.
Cudjoe went on to explain that this is not just a local issue, but one that affects the broader educational community. He noted that their action is in solidarity with the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) and other educational bodies who have also called for WAEC to immediately release the results.

“We are deeply concerned about the emotional and psychological toll this situation is having on our children. We cannot stand by as our children suffer while their futures are held in limbo,” said Cudjoe.
The Parents Association’s stance is clear: they cannot wait any longer for WAEC to resolve the matter. They are demanding that the examination body release the withheld results within seven days, allowing the affected students to move forward with their academic and personal lives.
The withholding of results has sparked a broader conversation about transparency and accountability within the West African Examinations Council. Many stakeholders are questioning the rationale behind the delay and calling for a clearer explanation of the reasons behind the decision.
As the deadline approaches, all eyes will be on WAEC to see whether the examination body will heed the calls of the parents, students, and educational bodies.
