GNAT Appeals to GES to Establish More Aptitude Test Centers for Teacher Promotions

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has officially written to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), urging the creation of more examination centers for the conduct of the aptitude test required for teacher promotions.

In a letter dated July 2, 2025, and signed by Amadu Moses Baman Snr., Deputy General Secretary in charge of Education and Professional Development, GNAT cited numerous complaints from teachers, particularly those in underserved and remote areas. According to the letter, many teachers are burdened by the long distances they must travel to sit for the promotion exams, which poses both logistical and financial challenges.

The association highlighted two major concerns driving their request:

  • The need to alleviate the risk and inconvenience caused by long-distance travel.
  • The reduction of costs associated with accommodation and transportation for teachers.

GNAT emphasized the urgency of the matter and proposed the establishment of additional aptitude test centers in the following areas:

This move by GNAT underscores its commitment to championing the welfare and professional development of teachers across the country.
