GETFund Unveils Monitoring Software to Enhance Educational Infrastructure Projects

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has taken a significant step toward improving the quality and timely completion of educational infrastructure projects by launching a state-of-the-art monitoring software.

This move was announced at the 2024 GETFund Stakeholders Forum, held in Accra, themed “Supporting the Delivery of Quality Education: The Impact of GETFund on Contemporary Education.”

Richard Boadu, the Administrator of GETFund, stressed the importance of rigorous oversight, noting that previous gaps in monitoring had given contractors and consultants excessive leeway, often compromising project standards. “We’ve recognized the gaps in our previous systems, and it’s time for change,” Boadu remarked during his address.

The newly introduced monitoring software is designed to ensure that all projects funded by GETFund adhere to high-quality standards and are completed within set timelines. This technological tool aims to eliminate delays and quality issues that have historically plagued GETFund projects.

As part of the reform, GETFund has established a new operational structure to improve oversight at regional levels. A dedicated office will oversee projects in the Northern Sector, while the Kumasi office will manage the Middle Belt Zone, and the Accra office will handle the Southern Zone. This decentralized approach is expected to enhance accountability and localized management of infrastructure projects.

In a significant shift from past practices, GETFund will no longer allow a single contractor to manage multiple projects at once. According to Boadu, contractors had previously been tasked with overseeing as many as ten projects simultaneously, a system that often led to subpar work and delays. “This approach often led to quality issues and delays. Now, contractors will no longer have control over multiple projects at once,” he explained, emphasizing that the new system promotes more focused and responsible project management.

With a renewed commitment to addressing educational infrastructure needs across the country, GETFund has secured GHS 61.5 billion to fund approximately 11,548 ongoing and new projects. This substantial financial backing underscores GETFund’s dedication to advancing the educational sector by ensuring quality learning environments for students.

As GETFund forges ahead with these reforms, Boadu reassured stakeholders of their commitment to delivering quality projects while maintaining strong partnerships with contractors and consultants. “We are here to support quality education in Ghana,” he concluded, marking a new era of efficiency and accountability in the delivery of educational projects.

The introduction of this monitoring software signals GETFund’s intention to elevate educational infrastructure across the country, creating a positive impact on the future of Ghanaian education.
