GES to Hold One-Day Orientation Workshop for Newly Recruited Teachers in Savannah Region

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a one-day regional orientation workshop for newly recruited teachers in the Savannah Region, following provisions in the Collective Agreement governing teaching staff.

In a letter dated January 13, 2026, and signed by the Savannah Regional Director of Education, Mr. Bright A. Lawoe, the Regional Education Directorate invited teachers recruited in November and December 2025 to participate in the mandatory orientation programme.

The workshop is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Savannah Regional Education Directorate Conference Hall in Damongo, beginning at 10:00 am.

According to the letter, the orientation is being organised pursuant to Section 24.4 of the 2020 Collective Agreement for Teaching Staff within the Ghana Education Service, which requires that all newly employed staff receive orientation upon assumption of duty. The programme is aimed at familiarising new teachers with the policies, expectations, and professional standards of the Ghana Education Service, as well as equipping them for effective service delivery.

The Regional Education Directorate has directed all Municipal and District Directors of Education in the Savannah Region to bring the invitation to the attention of the affected teachers and ensure that they are released to attend the workshop without fail.

Education stakeholders have consistently emphasised the importance of orientation programmes for newly recruited teachers, noting that such initiatives help smooth the transition into the service, promote professionalism, and enhance teaching and learning outcomes in schools.

The Savannah Regional Education Directorate is expected to use the opportunity to address key issues relating to teacher conduct, administrative procedures, and the overall vision of the Ghana Education Service.

The letter concludes with a call for full compliance, underscoring the significance of the programme in strengthening the capacity of newly recruited teachers in the region.
