GES Takes Action to Address Staff Salary-Related Issues

In a recent communication from the Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters in Accra, the Deputy Director-General (MS), Stephen Kwaku Owusu, has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to resolving the ongoing salary-related issues affecting its staff. The letter, dated 19th August 2024, was addressed to all Regional Directors within the service, highlighting the management’s efforts to prioritize the welfare of its employees.

Acknowledging the distress and disruption caused by these issues, GES management expressed its understanding of the adverse effects that salary discrepancies have had on staff productivity. To mitigate these challenges, the GES has established a robust Technical Working Team in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).

This team is tasked with expediting the resolution of outstanding salary matters, including reactivations, responsibility allowances, and the salaries of new entrants, among other concerns.

The letter, which was copied to key officials within the GES, including the Director-General and all General Managers of Education, outlined the management’s ambitious timeline to address most, if not all, of these issues by the end of August and September 2024. The communication also extended gratitude to the staff for their ongoing commitment and hard work despite the financial uncertainties.

This development comes as a relief to many within the education sector who have been grappling with delayed salaries and other financial challenges. The swift response from the GES leadership reflects a proactive approach to ensuring that staff welfare is prioritized, ultimately contributing to the overall productivity and morale of the education workforce in Ghana.

As the deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the GES to see if the outlined commitments will be met, providing much-needed relief to affected staff across the country. The resolution of these salary-related issues will not only stabilize the financial wellbeing of the staff but also enhance the delivery of quality education across the nation.
