GES Releases Full Details of Structure and Scope of the Examination and Examination Centres for December 2025 Teachers’ Promotion Examinations

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released comprehensive details regarding the December 2025 Teachers’ Promotion Examinations, including examination dates, ranks involved, structure of the papers, and a nationwide list of approved examination centres.

According to the official notice to candidates, the promotion examinations will be conducted over two days, beginning on Monday, December 29, 2025, and ending on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon each day.

On Monday, December 29, the examination will be written by candidates seeking promotion to the ranks of Assistant Director II (ADII) and Principal Superintendent (PS). This will be followed on Tuesday, December 30, by candidates for Assistant Director I (ADI) and Deputy Director (DD) positions.

Candidate Notification and Verification

GES has indicated that candidates will receive SMS notifications containing their Staff ID, Index Number, and designated examination centre. In addition, the full list of candidates and index numbers will be made available for verification at GES Headquarters, Regional Education Offices, Municipal/Metro/District Education Offices, as well as all examination centres nationwide.

Examination Day Requirements

Candidates are required to present a valid National Identification Card at their examination centres. They must also ensure that their Staff ID and Index Number are clearly written on all examination scripts, as failure to comply may affect the processing of results.

Structure and Scope of the Examination

The promotion examination will assess candidates’ knowledge in key areas of educational administration and practice. Topics to be covered include:

  • Knowledge of the Ghana Education Service
  • The Ministry of Education and its agencies
  • School and classroom management
  • Theories of teaching and learning
  • Curriculum development
  • Assessment and evaluation
  • Office practices
  • Educational policies
  • Contemporary national and international issues
  • Educational administration and management

For Principal Superintendents, Assistant Director II, and Assistant Director I, the paper will consist of 70 questions in multiple-choice and true-or-false formats. Candidates for Deputy Director will answer 70 questions, made up of 50 multiple-choice/true-or-false questions and 20 fill-in questions.

Special Arrangements for Candidates with Special Needs

GES has made special provisions for candidates with special needs, particularly the visually challenged. Designated centres for such candidates include Wesley College of Education in Kumasi, Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong, and Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education, Wa. Affected candidates are advised to make prior arrangements to ensure the necessary support is in place before examination day.

Nationwide Examination Centres

The examination will be conducted at approved centres across all regions, including Colleges of Education, universities, and selected senior high schools in Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, North East, Oti, Volta, Western, and Western North Regions. Some districts in the Western area will write at Western North centres, as directed by GES.
