GES Promotions 2025: Key Updates for Teachers Across Ranks

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has provided important updates on the 2025 promotion processes for teaching staff across the various professional ranks. These updates come at a crucial time as many educators eagerly await clarity on the path to career advancement and salary adjustments.
Below are the confirmed highlights:
1. Automatic Promotion for Long-Serving Deputy Directors
Teachers who have served on the Deputy Director rank for between 10 and 15 years will be automatically promoted to the rank of Director II. This promotion is expected to be reflected in their June or July 2025 salaries, offering long-overdue recognition to educators who have dedicated over a decade at that level.
2. Interviews for Deputy Directors with 4+ Years of Service
Teachers who have been at the Deputy Director rank for four years or more will be invited for interviews to be considered for promotion to Director II. This structured path aims to ensure fairness and merit-based progression.
3. Promotion Application Portal to Open Soon

Discussions are still ongoing concerning the 2025 GES promotions for ranks including Principal Superintendent (PS), Assistant Director II (ADII), Assistant Director I (ADI), and Deputy Director (DD). One of the key issues being addressed is the merging of notional dates from 2020 and 2021, which had created inconsistencies in the past. Once finalized, the GES Promotions Portal will open for applications from eligible teachers across the country.
4. Aptitude Test Tentatively Set for September 2025
The 2025 GES Promotions Aptitude Test has been tentatively scheduled for September 2025. Teachers applying for various ranks are advised to begin preparations early, especially those writing for the first time or re-sitting from previous years.
5. Slight Changes Expected in Deputy Director Test Format
Candidates applying for promotion to Deputy Director should anticipate minor changes in the structure of their aptitude test questions. These changes are intended to better reflect the seniority and responsibilities associated with the rank. Further details on these changes will be communicated when officially approved.
Teachers are encouraged to remain alert and check the GES promotions portal regularly for updates once applications officially open. These developments represent significant steps toward resolving long-standing promotion delays and ensuring equity within the teaching profession.
