GES Opens Applications for Promotion of Teaching Staff

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially opened applications for the promotion of teaching staff to higher ranks within the Service. In a circular dated 11th September 2025, the GES invited suitably qualified teachers and officers to apply for consideration for promotion to the following ranks:

  • Deputy Director
  • Assistant Director I
  • Assistant Director II
  • Principal Superintendent

Qualification Criteria

According to the circular, eligibility is based on years of service and the current rank of applicants:

  • Deputy Director: Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director I in or before 2021 and have remained continuously at post, except for approved leave.
  • Assistant Director I: Applicants must have attained the rank of Assistant Director II in or before 2021 and have been consistently at post.
  • Assistant Director II: Applicants must have been promoted to Principal Superintendent in or before 2021 and remained continuously at post.
  • Principal Superintendent: Applicants must have reached the rank of Senior Superintendent I in or before 2021 and have been continuously at post. Teachers with approved undergraduate degrees will automatically be placed on this rank.

Consideration for Master’s and PhD Holders

GES further clarified that applicants relying on higher academic qualifications to accelerate their promotion must meet the following conditions:

  • The Master’s or PhD programme must be on the approved GES course of study.
  • The certificate should not have been obtained before the applicant’s last promotion.
  • Candidates applying for ADI, ADII, or Deputy Director positions using postgraduate qualifications should have completed their degree in or before 2023.

Mode of Application

Interested applicants are required to complete an online application via https://bit.ly/GESPROMOTION25. They must upload the following documents:

  • Passport-sized photograph (JPEG, JPG, or PNG format)
  • Last promotion, appointment, or upgrading letter
  • Highest academic certificate relevant to the application

All supporting documents must be in PDF format, clear, and legible.

The application window runs from Thursday, 11th September to Thursday, 2nd October 2025. The Service emphasized that all applicants who previously applied must re-apply.
