GES Declares November 7 as National CPD Day for Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES), in collaboration with the National Teaching Council (NTC), has announced a nationwide professional training exercise for teachers across the country, scheduled for Friday, November 7, 2025.

The training, which will focus on Cybersecurity and Data Protection, forms part of the GES’s National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme aimed at equipping teachers with relevant skills to meet the demands of modern digital education.

According to a circular dated October 27, 2025, and signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division at GES Headquarters, the session will be conducted in partnership with Messrs Kanton, a consultancy firm supporting the training rollout.

In line with the CPD framework, the GES has declared the day a National CPD Day, enabling all teachers nationwide to participate in the exercise. The directive emphasizes that all Regional Directors of Education are to communicate the information to Metro, Municipal, and District Directors within their jurisdictions and ensure smooth coordination with the National CPD facilitators.

“The training seeks to strengthen teachers’ understanding of cybersecurity issues and data protection practices, an area increasingly relevant in today’s technology-driven education environment,” the statement indicated.

The GES and NTC have, in recent years, intensified efforts to build the capacity of teachers through CPD initiatives, ensuring that educators remain professionally competent and ethically grounded in their practice. The focus on cybersecurity and data protection reflects growing awareness of digital safety in schools, where teachers are now expected to handle sensitive student data responsibly.

Stakeholders in the education sector have welcomed the announcement, noting that the training will not only enhance teachers’ digital literacy but also contribute to safer digital learning environments for students.

The circular was copied to key education officials, including the Chairman of the GES Council, the Acting Director-General of GES, the Acting Deputy Directors-General (Management Services and Quality and Access), and the Registrar of the National Teaching Council.

The Ghana Education Service reiterated its commitment to continuous teacher development as a cornerstone for improving educational quality and advancing national learning standards.

This initiative underscores GES’s broader vision of fostering professional excellence among Ghanaian teachers while aligning with international standards for education and data security.
