GES Declares Friday, June 6, 2025, as Public Holiday for Basic and Senior High/Technical Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, as a public holiday for all Basic and Senior High/Technical Schools (SHS and SHTS) across the country in recognition of the Eid ul-Adha celebration.
This announcement, issued from the GES Headquarters in Accra and signed by Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Acting Deputy Director-General (Q&A), directs heads of schools to permit students who wish to travel home for the celebration to do so. However, the break is not mandatory. Students who prefer to remain on campus must be appropriately supervised during the holiday period.

According to the statement, students who travel home are expected to return to school on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in order to resume academic work without disruption.
The GES has requested all Regional Directors to communicate this directive to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education (MMDDEs), as well as to all Heads of Senior High Schools, for prompt dissemination and implementation.
This move reflects GES’s commitment to accommodating religious observances while maintaining the academic calendar.
