GES Confirms 2025/2026 SHS Calendar, Introduces Off-Campus Learning for Transitional Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the 2025/2026 academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) remains unchanged, while announcing structured provisions for online and off-campus learning for students in transitional schools.
In a statement dated January 2, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES said the calendar, which was issued at the beginning of the academic year, is still in force and should be strictly adhered to by all heads of schools, teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
Single Track Schools
For single track schools, Forms 1 and 2 students are expected to report to school from January 5 to February 27, 2026, followed by a break from February 27 to May 3, 2026. They will resume from May 4 and end the academic year on August 21, 2026.
Form 3 students in single track schools will attend school from January 5 to February 27, 2026, proceed on break from February 28 to March 13, and return from March 14 to June 21, 2026, marking the end of their school year.
Transitional Schools
For transitional schools, Form 3 students will report from January 5 to March 31, 2026, break for Easter from April 1 to April 8, and resume from April 9 to June 21, 2026.
Form 2 students will be in school from January 5 to March 15, 2026, after which they will undergo online or off-campus learning from March 16 to April 17. They will then proceed on vacation from April 18 to May 17 and return to school from May 18 to September 4, 2026, to complete the academic year.

Form 1 students in transitional schools will begin with online or off-campus learning from January 5 to January 30, 2026, go on vacation from January 31 to March 15, and report to school from March 16 to May 17. They will again engage in online or off-campus learning from May 18 to June 12, proceed on vacation from June 13 to July 2, and finally return to school from July 3 to September 4, 2026.
Off-Campus Learning Arrangements
GES explained that special arrangements have been made to support effective teaching and learning during the online and off-campus periods for transitional schools. These include structured projects and assignments drawn from approved textbooks and curriculum resources, all of which are freely accessible on the national curriculum resources portal.
In addition, lessons will be broadcast daily on the Ministry of Education Television (MoE TV), available on Multi TV, to support students who may not have access to digital platforms. Schools that operate Learning Management Systems (LMS) have also been urged to fully activate and utilise them during off-campus periods, with management assuring support where necessary.
Not a Vacation
GES stressed that the online and off-campus learning periods are not holidays or breaks but form an integral and mandatory part of the academic calendar. Students are therefore expected to actively participate through at least one of the approved learning avenues.
Management has further urged heads of schools, teachers, parents, and guardians to take keen interest in the arrangements and ensure that students are supervised and supported to fully engage in all off-campus learning activities.
The Service says the measures are aimed at ensuring continuity in teaching and learning while guaranteeing that every student has equitable access to education throughout the 2025/2026 academic year.
