GES Condemns Alleged Theft of Students’ Food at Awaso STEM SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned an alleged theft of food supplies meant for students at Awaso STEM Senior High School in the Western North Region, describing the incident as unacceptable and contrary to the Service’s core values.
In an official statement dated December 26, 2025, and issued by its Public Relations Unit, GES confirmed receiving reports of the arrest of the school’s matron, Benedicta Nyamadi, and a cook, Rachel Kyeremateng, in connection with the alleged diversion of food items intended for students.
According to GES, the alleged act, if proven, constitutes a serious breach of ethical standards, professional conduct, and public trust. Management emphasized that it does not condone misconduct, abuse of office, or any action that undermines the welfare, nutrition, and overall well-being of students in public schools.
“The alleged act runs contrary to the ethical standards, professional conduct, and core values of the Ghana Education Service,” the statement stressed.
GES further disclosed that the matter is currently under investigation by the Ghana Police Service, and assured the public of its full cooperation with law enforcement and other relevant state institutions to ensure due process is followed.

Reassuring parents, guardians, and the general public, the Service noted that robust monitoring mechanisms exist within the system, adding that where lapses are identified, appropriate sanctions will be applied in line with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
The Service also used the opportunity to remind all school staff of their responsibility to uphold integrity and accountability in the management of public resources, particularly those directly linked to student welfare.
The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, who reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of students and maintaining high standards of discipline and professionalism across all public educational institutions.
As investigations continue, GES has appealed for calm and assured stakeholders that decisive action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
