GES Calls for Refunds for Unreceived TM1 Laptops
In a recent development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive for the compilation of a list of primary school teachers who have not received their TM1 laptops. This announcement, dated July 14, 2024, addresses the need for refunds for teachers who had deductions made from their salaries in 2022 but did not receive the promised laptops.
The letter, signed by Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of GES, was addressed to the Regional Director of Education, Eastern Region. The communication highlights the administrative delays and distribution failures that have left many teachers without the essential TM1 laptops, despite deductions being made from their salaries in the previous year.
According to the letter, teachers in the Akyemansa, Birim North, and Kwahu Afram Plains North districts are among those affected by the delayed distribution. The GES directive mandates that a comprehensive list of these teachers be compiled and submitted to the Controller and Accountant General Department through the GES by July 16, 2024. This submission is crucial for processing the refunds in the July 2024 validation.
The failure to distribute the laptops has been a significant concern, as these devices are essential for enhancing the teaching and learning process.

The TM1 laptops were intended to support digital literacy among teachers and improve educational outcomes. The delay not only affects the teachers’ efficiency but also impacts the quality of education delivered to students.
The GES has emphasized the urgency of this matter and is taking steps to ensure that affected teachers are refunded promptly. This move underscores the commitment of the GES to uphold the welfare of teachers and address issues arising from administrative lapses.
The letter also copies key stakeholders, including various Deputy Director-Generals at GES HQ in Accra, the Director of HRMD, the Director of Schools and Instructions, and the Minister of Finance. This widespread notification indicates the seriousness with which the GES is addressing the issue.
In summary, the GES’s recent directive to compile a list of teachers who have not received their TM1 laptops is a critical step towards resolving the distribution delays and ensuring that affected teachers are refunded. This action demonstrates the GES’s dedication to supporting teachers and improving the educational framework in Ghana.
