GES Appoints Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II as Director for Schools and Instruction (Pre-Secondary)

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has appointed Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II as the new Director for Schools and Instruction Division (Pre-Secondary), a key national role responsible for policy direction and instructional delivery at the foundational level of education.

Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II is a distinguished educationist in the rank of Director I, widely recognised for her firm yet thoughtful leadership, which has significantly influenced policy implementation, school performance, and instructional quality across districts, regions, and the national education space over the years.

Prior to her appointment to this national position, she served as the Regional Director of Education for the Bono East Region. Earlier, she made history as the inaugural Substantive Regional Director of Education for the Oti Region, where she played a pivotal role in establishing and strengthening education administration in the newly created region.

Her exemplary service across two regions later earned her the additional responsibility of serving as Dean of the Conference of Regional Directors of Education, Ghana (CONREDE-GH).

Her career at the district level is equally notable. As District Director of Education for Afadzato South, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II oversaw remarkable improvements in academic outcomes, with BECE pass rates rising significantly within a short period. Her strong emphasis on standards, discipline, and accountability earned her widespread respect and the affectionate title “Nana Director” among staff and stakeholders.

Beyond her administrative career, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II is a gazetted Queenmother of Likpe Gudeve in the Guan District of the Oti Region, reflecting her deep commitment to community leadership and traditional governance.

Academically, she was the Overall Best Graduating Student and Valedictorian of the University of Ghana in 2004. She holds a Master’s degree in Adult Education and a Diploma in Music Education, and is the author of the widely used books Rudiments of English Comprehension and Summary for Senior High Schools.

In her new role, she is expected to continue championing foundational learning, inclusive education, and effective policy implementation across the country.

Her appointment has been met with widespread commendation within the education sector.
