Five Remanded Over Brutal Attack on Kade SHTS Teacher

Five suspects have been remanded by the Kade Circuit Court in connection with a violent attack on a teacher of Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Eastern Region.

The suspects, whose names were not disclosed in court, were arrested by the Cyber Security Unit of the Ghana Police Service and made their first appearance before the court on Tuesday, January 7, 2026.

The court ordered that they be remanded into police custody to assist with investigations, with the next hearing scheduled for January 20, 2026.

The victim, Mr. Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade SHTS, was allegedly attacked in what has been described as a revenge act linked to his role during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to preliminary reports, Mr. Quayson was noted for his firm and uncompromising supervision during the examination period, a stance that reportedly foiled several attempts at examination malpractice. Investigators believe this strict supervision may have triggered the violent assault against him.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from education stakeholders and teacher unions, who have renewed calls for enhanced protection for teachers, especially during and after national examinations.

Teacher unions have consistently warned that increasing attacks on teachers pose a serious threat to discipline and academic integrity within the education system. They argue that failure to deal decisively with such incidents could discourage teachers from enforcing examination rules and maintaining standards in schools.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all persons found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The case is expected to return to court on January 20, 2026, as investigations continue.
