Father Stops Daughter from Writing BECE Over ‘Death Prophecy’ — MCE, GES Intervene

Father of a brilliant student in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region reportedly barred his daughter from writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) following a prophecy by their church pastor that she would die if she took part in the exams.

According to local reports, the pastor allegedly revealed that the girl would die if she took part in the exams. Acting on this prophecy, the father decided to keep his daughter at home, preventing her from joining her peers on the first day of the nationwide examination.

The situation came to light when education authorities noticed the student’s unexplained absence. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Municipal Director of Education were immediately informed and intervened.

Upon engaging with the father, the officials convinced him to allow his daughter to sit for the remaining papers of the BECE. Unfortunately, by the time the intervention was successful, the student had already missed the first subject.

Many in the community have expressed shock and concern over the influence of unverified spiritual revelations on the future of young learners. Education stakeholders have since called for intensified public education to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) and other relevant bodies are yet to officially comment on whether the student will be permitted a makeup paper for the one she missed.

The 2025 BECE began on Wednesday, June 11, with over 600,000 candidates participating nationwide.
