MASS failure of the teacher licensure examination threat to national security – NTC

Only 1,277 out of the 6,481 potential teachers who took the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination again in May 2023 passed, or 16.5 percent, meaning that they failed.

Some of the future educators have taken the tests up to nine times.

Dennis Osei owusu, the head of public affairs of the National Teaching Council (NTC), described the scenario as a threat to national security in an exclusive interview with GHOne TV News. Osei owusu found the situation disgusting.

On June 20, 2023, the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination results were made public.

Dennis Osei Owusu claimed that many applicants were unable to respond to questions of a basic level and blamed the high failure rate on their lack of seriousness.

“I am claiming that it poses a threat to national security because these teachers will be working in our classrooms to educate the next generation. You would be amazed if you had the chance to alter some of the exam responses. A larger stakeholder consultation is required.

The unsuccessful candidates, who only have one more chance, have been asked to contact the council for assistance with any issues. “If you’re a teacher and you think you failed and you don’t understand, come for commenting,” Denis Osei Owusu urged. We think what we’re doing is right.

The national teaching council claims that in the meantime, it has implemented strict measures like ongoing professional development to make sure that all teachers are adequately prepared and certified to teach students.
