Failed teachers to be allowed to retake licensure exams

An opportunity to retake the 2023 Teacher Licensure Exams is extended to the 8,000 teachers who did not pass them in March of this year.

8,000 of the more than 20,000 teachers who took the test did not fulfil the necessary requirements.

The National Teaching Council’s Registrar, Dr. Christian Addea Poku, states that the organisation is dedicated to making sure that only certified educators are assigned to schools.

“People have been talking about the fact that we failed people because there is no vacancy for the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service to employ them, but for us at the National Teaching Council, we don’t regulate and license only public school teachers. So, we expect that when people go through the system and they get licensed, some of them may get absorbed by the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service.”

Approximately thirty percent, or 9,556, of the 20,181 teachers that took the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 2&3 did not pass.
