Evalue Ajomoro Gwira MP and Nzema East MCE Honour Teachers at Maiden Awards Ceremony in Axim

The teaching fraternity in Nzema East Municipal received a major boost on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, when the Member of Parliament for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, Hon. Kofi Arkoe Nokoe, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Herbert Kuah Dickson, organised the maiden edition of a teachers’ awards ceremony at the Axim Victoria Park.

The well-attended event, graced by traditional rulers, clergy, assembly members, students, and education stakeholders, was instituted to appreciate, motivate, and honour both active and retired teachers who have contributed immensely to the growth of education in the municipality.

Significant Support for Teachers

As part of the awards, Hon. Arkoe Nokoe and Hon. Kuah Dickson donated essential items to outstanding teachers, particularly those serving in remote communities. Notable among the items were:

  • Four motorbikes for teachers in hard-to-reach areas
  • Thirteen double-decker fridges
  • Six tabletop fridges
  • Five deep freezers

Additionally, six retired teachers were honoured with citations and a cash prize of GH₵2,000 each, in recognition of their long and dedicated service.

Honouring Excellence in Teaching

The highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of the overall best teacher.

  • Stephen Mensah of Kwame Nkrumah Senior High School emerged as the Overall Best Teacher, receiving GH₵10,000 and a package of assorted items.
  • Mr. Francis Anyan Mensah was named First Runner-up and received GH₵7,500.
  • Ms. Monica Turkson took the position of Second Runner-up, taking home GH₵5,000.

Teachers across various levels—pre-school, primary, JHS, SHS, TVET, languages, STEM, non-teaching staff, and education administration—were also recognised for their dedication and exceptional performance. Special dedication awards were also presented from the office of the MP.

MP Reaffirms Commitment to Education

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Kofi Arkoe Nokoe said the award scheme aims to empower and inspire teachers who continue to dedicate their lives to shaping the future of the municipality. He emphasised that education remains the backbone of development.

“My office, through our partnership with the MCE, will ensure that our area receives the best basic amenities that would improve our lives,” he stated.

He further commended the strong collaboration between the MCE and key stakeholders, which he noted is essential for accelerating development across the constituency.

Traditional Authorities Applaud the Initiative

The Omanhene of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, HRM Awulae Attibrukusu III, praised both the MP and the MCE for their exceptional dedication to the progress of the municipality. He encouraged teachers to uphold professionalism and integrity in their work.

“We, the traditional leaders, will continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the working conditions of all workers, especially our teachers,” he affirmed.

MCE Pledges Continued Cooperation

For his part, Hon. Herbert Kuah Dickson expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for supporting the event and assured the public of his unwavering commitment to advancing development.

He noted that his office will continue to collaborate with the MP to lobby for more initiatives that will uplift education and overall development in the area.
