Director-General gives update on unresolved salary adjustment and scale placement issues of degree teachers

Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has recently addressed the pressing concerns of degree-holding teachers regarding their promotion, offering a glimmer of hope to many teachers who feel their professional growth has been stifled.

In a recent social media update, Dr. Nkansah expressed his commitment to resolving the issue. “Thank you very much for your submission. I want to assure you that management has taken key interest with regards to this issue and will soon share the good news when all is done,” he stated.

This announcement comes after considerable unrest among teachers across Ghana. Despite meeting the necessary qualifications, many educators who have upgraded from diploma to degree certificates have not been promoted to the rank of Principal Superintendent (PS), which they believe is their due promotion. This has led to widespread dissatisfaction, with many educators feeling that their substantial investment in professional development has not been fairly acknowledged.

The core of the grievance lies in the perceived inequities within the promotion process. Teachers who once held diploma certificates and have since acquired degree qualifications find themselves stuck in the Senior Superintendent I and Superintendent II ranks. This stagnation is seen as a disservice to their dedication and efforts to advance their expertise in alignment with the evolving educational standards in Ghana.

The delay in addressing these promotion issues has led some educators to seek alternative means to assert their claims. However, the majority of these degree-holding teachers are advocating for a transparent and fair process, one that recognizes their professional achievements through official channels rather than resorting to unconventional measures.

Addressing these concerns is not merely about rectifying an administrative oversight; it is a significant step toward boosting teacher morale and fostering a culture of continuous professional development. By ensuring that promotions are handled fairly and transparently, the Ghana Education Service will not only uplift the spirits of its educators but also enhance the overall quality of education in the country.

The commitment shown by Dr. Nkansah and the GES management to resolve these promotion issues is a promising development. As the education sector in Ghana continues to evolve, such actions are crucial in ensuring that the dedicated individuals who shape the future of the nation through their work in schools are duly recognized and rewarded.
