Details of how 18-year-old spent millions stolen from sanitation minister revealed

After reportedly taking millions of Ghanaian cedis and other personal belongings from the home of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the sanitation minister, and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, an 18-year-old housekeeper named Patience Botwe is implicated.

The young woman is currently before Accra Circuit Court on allegations of stealing and illegal possession of stolen property with her accomplice, former housekeeper Sarah Agyei.

The thefts are said to have taken place between July and October 2022, during Patience’s employment as a housekeeper for the illustrious couple, according to the modified charge sheet and brief facts provided in court. It is claimed that Sarah, a former employee of the complainants, and Patience, also known as Maabena, conspired to commit the alleged crime.

When Mr. Kuffour returned from a trip and found Patience in their bedroom—which she had accessed using a duplicate key—the alleged crimes were discovered. The couple reported the discovery to the police, which resulted in Patience’s detention. She was eventually released on police investigation bail.

However, Patience and her lover Benjamin hid out in Tamale instead of assisting the police. Their hiding place, a three-bedroom flat that they were paying an astonishing GH105,600 to rent, came to light when the authorities learned of their whereabouts.

Law enforcement officials allegedly discovered a sizeable amount of US$40,000 and GH72,619.70 during a spot check of the residence; these sums are thought to be a portion of the stolen money. This probe led to the discovery of Patience’s allegedly exorbitant expenditures.

The accused adolescent allegedly paid $70,000 for a luxurious three-bedroom home in Amrahia on the Adenta-Oyibi stretch

A double-decker refrigerator, water dispenser, television, washing machine, and chest cooler are just a few of the top-of-the-line furnishings in the residence.

In addition, Patience showed Benjamin how much she cared by giving him a Hyundai Elantra worth GH80,000. Benjamin apparently sold the vehicle though in order to buy a Honda Civic.

Patience also gave her family and ex-boyfriend financial support, giving her father GH50,000 and her ex-boyfriend Malik a staggering GH1 million. Patience had been remanded into legal care along with her purported lovers and father. Because Sarah is a breastfeeding mother, bail was granted.

The case is adjourned to August 2, 2023. We will keep you updated.
