CSSPS Deputy Explains Why SHS Placements Are Rarely Altered

The Deputy National Coordinator of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), Abdul-Rahman Mohammed Demi, has clarified that Senior High School (SHS) placements are not intended to be changed once completed, except in cases involving genuine mistakes.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Chief Jerry Justice on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Demi explained that the establishment of solution centres was crucial to resolving errors made by parents and students during the school selection process.

He cited instances where, for example, a student residing in Kasoa (Central Region) might mistakenly be placed in a school located in Osu (Accra). Such an error, he noted, could create unnecessary hardship and chronic lateness if not corrected.

“Ideally, placements should remain as they are because schools declare their vacancies in advance. However, some mistakes are genuine—sometimes due to parents relocating after choosing schools, or students not knowing the exact location of the schools they selected. The solution centres exist to meet parents halfway and bring relief to families,” Mr. Demi explained.

He added that while it is often difficult to alter placements into schools that have already filled their declared vacancies, the system allows for alternative arrangements, handled with what he described as “a human face.”

Mr. Demi further called for increased sensitisation and public education on the school selection process to minimise avoidable errors and reduce pressure on solution centres.

The CSSPS solution centres were set up across the country to support parents and students facing placement challenges following the release of SHS placement results.
