Respect is the collective responsibility of everyone involved in football, at all levels, to create a fair, safe and enjoyable environment in which the game can take place. It is the behavioural code for football. Respect is a continuous FA programme, not a one-off initiative. It was launched in 2008 by the Union of Europeans Football Associations (UEFA). Its main objective is to work towards unity and respect across gender, race, religion and ability; plainly, racism.
Players show respect on and off the field to make football lively. No matter how you feel about your opponent, you must show them ‘RESPECT’. By using this as the foundation to build communities and sport, one can meet one another across borders and boundaries, learn to compete as friends, and to trust one another even in opposition.
Coaches also play their part in showing ‘RESPECT’ to players and fellow coaches. Here are the traits of a good coach who shows respect to the team; they are knowledgeable in their field of sport. They take full responsibility for their teams’ weaknesses and never place blame on anybody but themselves. they spend more time and employ more patience with the less talented athletes.
Respect Armbands worn by family and friends also shows Respect. Many people wear black armbands in reverence to the passing of a relative, family member, friend, work colleague or sports team member. On the field of play, players show kindness, care, and love to fellow players and opponents to prove RESPECT for them.
