Anloga Teachers Petition Nana Akufo-Addo, Demand Removal of District Education Director Over Alleged Corruption

Concerned teachers and parents in the Anloga Municipality have petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo, demanding the immediate removal of the Anloga District Education Director over allegations of bullying, mismanagement, and financial improprieties within the area’s basic schools.

In a petition dated February 22, 2026, the group outlined what they described as systemic challenges that have negatively impacted teaching quality, learner performance, and staff morale across the district. According to the signatories, the Director has repeatedly violated the Teachers’ Code of Conduct by assuming responsibilities that legally rest with classroom teachers, particularly the setting of end-of-term examinations.

The petition details several alleged abuses, including the mismanagement of examination fees and quota allocations, with claims that substantial sums have been diverted to the Director and private service providers. The group also accused the Director of bullying and intimidating headteachers and teachers who question directives.

Additionally, the petition cites punitive transfers and salary embargoes, which it says have led to severe teacher shortages in some schools. In certain cases, headteachers are reportedly compelled to engage untrained Senior High School leavers to fill teaching gaps.

The petitioners further alleged the use of externally set, non-standard examination questions, which they claim have contributed to consistently poor learner performance over the past decade, with nearly 97 percent of students reportedly failing terminal examinations.

They also raised concerns about excessive examination fees that prevent some learners from sitting exams, causing emotional and psychological distress.

Responding to the Director’s reported justification that teachers struggle with the proper application of Bloom’s Taxonomy and that the office holds authority to set examinations similar to WAEC, the petitioners argued that professional development workshops and stronger learning communities would better address quality concerns without undermining teachers’ statutory roles.

The group has called for the immediate dismissal of the Director, an independent investigation into the alleged mismanagement and abuse, restitution for affected learners and teachers, protection for whistle-blowers, and strict enforcement of the Teachers’ Code of Conduct.

Copies of the petition have been forwarded to the Minister of Education, the Ghana Education Service, the Attorney-General, Parliament, the Economic and Organised Crime Office, and teacher unions including Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT).

The petitioners stressed that urgent presidential intervention is necessary to restore transparency, accountability, and fairness in the Anloga Municipality’s basic education system.
