Ahafo Ano South West MP Donates Over 12,000 Textbooks to Schools

Mr. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South West Constituency in the Ashanti Region, has supplied more than 12,000 textbooks to schools in his constituency as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning.

The distribution covered both primary and junior high schools. At the lower primary level, 5,406 English reading books were supplied—1,731 copies for Basic 1 pupils and 3,675 copies for Basic 2 and 3. Additionally, 2,000 Twi reading books were distributed to strengthen literacy in local languages, while upper primary students received 3,000 English language books. Junior high schools in the constituency also benefited from 2,000 English language textbooks.

In total, 12,406 books were supplied to support pupils at different levels, an intervention that comes at a time when school enrollment in the constituency continues to rise, with 10,794 pupils currently at the primary level and 7,438 at the JHS level.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Dapaah reiterated his commitment to promoting quality education in Ahafo Ano South West, stressing that no child should be denied access to learning materials.

“Literacy is the bedrock of academic success. By providing these books, we are not only easing the financial burden on parents and teachers but also encouraging a strong reading culture among our pupils,” the MP stated.

Teachers and other education stakeholders in the constituency welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and a significant boost to teaching and learning in the area.
