Accra Academy Responds to Viral Bullying Video Incident

The management of Accra Academy has officially addressed a disturbing incident involving three Form Three boys and a Form One student who were seen in a viral video bullying fellow students. The video, which showed a student being flogged with a cutlass, sparked widespread concern among parents and the public.

In a statement issued by the school, it was clarified that the incident did not occur recently but rather on January 17, 2024. It was revealed that the victims did not report the incident to the school authorities until the video surfaced on social media, prompting swift action from management.

Investigative Findings

The school has identified all the students involved and has contacted their parents. Statements have been taken from some parents in connection with the case. Notably, the student who perpetrated the act has been handed over to the police for further interrogation.

The perpetrators of the act were named as:

Shadad Aliu (Kester) — Class 1VA 1

Haleem Jibril (Chopper) — Class 3Bus 5

Ahmed Dauda (Foreigner) — Class 3GA 5

Richard Ninsin (Poisonous) — Class 3GA 5

The victims were identified as:

Measures and Next Steps

It was disclosed that the students involved are all day students who have been instructed to stay away from the school while investigations are ongoing. Preliminary investigations revealed that the cutlass used in the incident was brought from the perpetrators’ homes and not from the school premises.

The school has assured stakeholders that its disciplinary committee is actively investigating the matter and will provide updates on the outcome.

This proactive response by Accra Academy demonstrates the school’s commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring a safe environment for its students. Parents and the public are urged to remain calm as due processes are followed.
