71-Year-Old farmer writes 2024 BECE in Ahafo Region

71-year-old Kwesi Baiden, farmer and a father of four children has defied the odds, writing the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ahafo Region.

Mr Kwasi Baiden was noticed writing the examination at the Ahafoman Senior High Technical School Centre “B” at Goaso, the regional capital during a visit to the centre.

Baiden’s story is one of resilience and unwavering ambition. Born into a financially constrained family, he did not have the opportunity to attend basic school during his early years.

This lack of formal education became a significant barrier, preventing him from obtaining a certificate and limiting his career prospects.

Yet, instead of succumbing to these challenges, Baiden has chosen to pursue education later in life, demonstrating that it is never too late to learn and grow.

Reflecting on his journey, Baiden shared, “I did not have the opportunity to attend basic school and obtain a certificate due to financial issues in my early years.

However, I have now decided to acquire one after realizing its importance.” This realization has propelled him to sit for the BECE exams, a crucial step in the Ghanaian education system that paves the way for secondary education.

Baiden’s aspirations do not end with the BECE. He aims to acquire vocational skills in high school, hoping this will provide him with practical knowledge and abilities that can enhance his life and potentially open doors to new career opportunities.

It also highlights the need for inclusive educational policies that accommodate learners of all ages, ensuring that opportunities for personal and professional growth are accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances.

As Baiden takes his exams alongside much younger peers, he stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, encouraging others to never give up on their educational goals.

His journey serves as a reminder that with perseverance and determination, any obstacle can be overcome, and new horizons can be explored, no matter the stage of life.
