2023 Academic Year PE and Sports Calendar for Basic Schools

The Sports Calendar for Basic Schools has been made available by the Physical Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The calendar includes all events that will be held during the 2023 academic year in terms of P.E. and sports for elementary schools.

The calendar lists all of the events and activities that are related to the physical education unit along with their dates, times, terms, and locations.

EVERYTHING FOR THE FIRST TERM IN 2023

1. Workshops for Regional P.E. Coordinators will be hosted and attended in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, from January 9 through January 13, 2023.

2. All schools will open for academic work on January 10, 2023.

3. In all 16 of the nation’s regions, interschool athletic competitions will take place from February 1 to February 18, 2023.

4. The preparation for Independence Day activities will take place across all Regions/MMDS from February 20 to February 28, 2023.

5. Independence Day celebrations will take place on March 6th, 2023, at all designated locations across the nation.

6. In Accra, Ghana, there will be an annual national technical and general meeting from March 15 to March 17, 2023.

7. All schools will have a weeklong first term break. beginning on April 1, 2023, and ending on April 9, 2023.

EVERYTHING FOR THE SECOND TERM IN 2023

1. Games and athletic competitions would also take place in April. Interschool/Circuit/Zonal Sports Competitions at all chosen venues for Primary U13 and Basic U15 athletes.

2. U13 Zonal 1 (Upper East, Upper West Northern, and North East) will be held in Tamale from May 16 through May 18, 2023.

3. U13 Zone 2 (Savannah, Bono, Ahafo, Bono East) will be taking place at Sunyani from May 19 to May 22, 2023.

4. U13 Zone 3 (Ashanti Western, Central, and Western North) will be taking place at Takoradi from May 22 to May 25, 2023.

5. U13 Zone 4 (Oti, Volta, Eastern, Greater Accra) will be taking place in Kpando from May 25 to May 28, 2023.

6. The National U13 Championship will be held in Kumasi from June 12 to June 17, 2023.

7. The second term break is scheduled to begin for all basic schools across the nation on June 29, 2023, and last through July 9, 2023.

EVERYTHING FOR THE THIRD TERM IN 2023

1. Special Games for SEND will take place in a few special schools during the month of July.

2. Workshops/Seminars for P.E. Personnel (District Coordinators and Sports Secretaries) will be held in Kumasi in August 2023.

3. All of the Regions will conduct camping in the same month of August 2023.

4. All Basic Schools will begin their third term break on September 29, 2023.

5. The Basic Festival will be observed in Greater Accra from October to November 2023. That takes place over the break.
