14-Year-Old Girl from Lambussie Appeals to WAEC Over Withheld BECE Maths Result and Wrong School Placement

A 14-year-old girl from Lambussie in the Upper West Region, Kpetaah Rejoice, is pleading with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to release her pending Mathematics result after what her family describes as an “unexplained error” in her 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results and school placement.
Rejoice, who reportedly performed excellently in the other subjects, has been given an unexpected aggregate of 54 — a score her parents say is inconsistent with her academic record and her overall performance. The anomaly has also resulted in her being wrongly placed at Wenchi Senior High School, far from the school she selected during the placement exercise.
According to her family, several attempts to verify the cause of the anomaly have yielded no clear answers. They are therefore appealing to WAEC and the Ministry of Education (MoE) to investigate the issue and ensure that her Mathematics paper is properly reviewed and released.

“We believe there’s been a mistake. Our daughter worked very hard and was confident in her Mathematics paper. We are only asking for fairness and transparency,” a family member told reporters.
The incident has sparked discussions about the reliability of the BECE results and placement system, as similar cases of withheld or disputed results have emerged in previous years. Many education watchers are urging WAEC to expedite investigations into such anomalies to protect the integrity of the examination process and avoid jeopardizing students’ educational futures.
Meanwhile, local education authorities in Lambussie have also expressed concern and called for urgent intervention from the Ministry of Education to ensure Rejoice is not unfairly disadvantaged in her secondary education journey.
As of now, WAEC has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
