12 Sakawa guys arrested for burying a newborn baby alive

A newborn baby was allegedly buried alive at the Andoni shoreline at Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by 12 suspected internet scammers.

The accused were taken into custody on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2023, by police officers working in cooperation with the Port Harcourt Local Government Authority Area Security Watch and the Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch.

The arrest came as a result of reliable information the vigilante obtained from locals who witnessed a group of youths chanting and digging by the water.

Victor Ohaji, the Chief Security Officer of Eagle Island and the Chairman of PLGA Security Watch, told news reporters about the incident.

He claimed that after receiving the information, he immediately informed the state neighbourhood agency, the Azikiwe Police Division in Diobi, Port Harcourt, and other relevant parties.

The “yahoo boys” had departed the location where we had been told the suspects were at the shoreline, so I instantly mobilised my troops, he said.

However, Ohaji claimed that upon closer inspection, it was found that the alleged “yahoo” youths had buried something along the waterfront.

The Eagle Island CSO claimed that after ordering his employees to dig, they discovered and exhumed a newborn baby boy’s lifeless body.

He claimed that his guys, the police, and local men went to the area to look for the culprits, who they eventually saw leaving a motel.

“When we dug the location, we discovered a newborn infant, a guy who was bouncing. They interred a very nice boy. I told the Eagle Island Situation Officer of our discovery right away so that he could relay it to the Divisional Police Officer he was collaborating with.

“The police and neighbourhood watchmen arrived right away and joined us. As a result, we began searching Eagle Island for the suspects.

We even switched hotels in the neighbourhood, and lo and behold, we spotted them leaving one of the buildings.

And as soon as we exited the vehicle, the suspects fled.

“So we pursued them and captured them. Twelve of them were present. We then took the baby and them to the police station.
